To Nurses Everywhere

Posted on October 6, 2013
A friend of mine, a nurse, recently told me "you do so much" just because I run Spartan races. I felt like such crap. I run, write, take care of my two kids...big freaking deal.

This woman has four kids, FOUR, and works 8, 10, 12 hour shifts, sometimes with as little as a 4-5 hours of sleep in between, because, you know, she needs time with her family and some alone time to herself, if that's even possible. She is always in a good least online and the few times I've spent with her kicking a sack in our Jiu-Jitsu class two years ago. How she found the time and energy back then to join the class, I'll never know.

So, feeling like a monumental pile of turd after receiving praise from a person in the vital profession of saving peoples lives, I went out in search of odes or dedications online to nurses around the world.

I found a few, but they felt like products of a cookie-cutter message. They didn't say what I wanted to say. Well, I didn't know exactly what I wanted to say, but I didn't find it online. So, I made this little piece up, Roz's Lunch Break, and just rode along as my character lived a day in her life as a nurse and mother of three children.

I got exhausted with just three children, I could not even imagine four!

Here's to you, C.M., and to nurses everywhere. You know who you are.

And for everyone else, be nice to your nurses, because you may one day need them. Karma is a vengeful bitch....

  1. She is a vengeful witch, and all nurses know it.

That's why we smile when we give you medicine through your IV ;)

This is really sweet of you, Tanya. I knew I liked you for a reason, he he.

  2. Thanks Katie! Right back at you Girl!
