Who Do You Root For in the FIFA 2014 World Cup?

Posted on June 12, 2014

You know the FIFA 2014 World Cup has begun when your facebook friends have changed their profile pics to something depicting their family's origin or team of choice. It's usually one in the same, but if you're anything like me, my family is a conglomerate of many countries. So who do you root for?

All of them. Seriously. You root for all and hope they never have to play each other. If they do, then you have to choose between your parents, and that's no fun.

I am half Ecuadorian and half Argentinian. My husband is half Spanish and half Cuban. We're both American born and raise. Fortunately, Cuba's not in the running, so that only gives us 4 countries to choose from.

Well, actually, we are only allowed to choose from 3. We can't openly root for the U.S.A. team. Our parents might disown us.

So who are you rooting for? What shirts / balls / flags / cups have you purchased to prove your team loyalty? It's all about the memorabilia for my soccer-obsessed six-year-old son. He wears a shirt from each one of the countries listed above, but he says he wants Messi's team to win.

Go Argentina! (Shhhh. Don't tell the others...)

  1. I guess since I am from the USA, I would most likely root for them. Since I really don't follow it all very closely I would be happy to see anyone win because I am sure that it will be a great contest regardless! ♥

    1. It really is a great tournament, Kathy. I think all the games are awesome. I've only caught a few, and they're really exciting.
