Time is always running away... slipping through our fingers... and yet sometimes it feels like it doesn't move. That photo above was taken in 1997, first year out of college, in NYC with the first digital camera I bought with the money I earned at my first programming job. Crazy how you can look at a photo and know exactly where you were when you took it.
Well, enough about reminiscing the days when I would work work work and party party party until I had to sleep and do it all over again. Let's talk about how it's just 4 days into 2015 and I'm already behind on my goals. Want to know what they are? Oy vey, here we go...
GOAL #1 : 365k words in a year.
Yes, you read that correctly. Let me expand it : 365,000 words in 365 days. It's day 4 and I'm at 5100 words, but most of it is editing my work-in-progress, Family Relics, instead of creating something completely new. I wanted the 365k to be all new material, but hey... the group said editing counts. Oh, and so does journaling, blogging, outlining, etc. etc. The Facebook group named Scribes' Portal is closed for the year, but you can follow the 10 Minute Novelist from which this group sprouted.
GOAL #2 : Publish Family Relics
Family Relics will be published this spring, as long as there are no life-altering events like a meteor about to his the Earth or Pink retires from her singing career and being totally rad. I also want to complete the first draft of Book 2 by the summer, titled The Onyx Ring. Sounds good, right? Trust me... it's going to be awesome.
Editing of Family Relics came to a complete stop once the kids were out on Xmas vacation. And, so, of course I get an email from my editor asking me about my updates. Had to apologize and told her I needed a few more weeks. It's virtually impossible to write when kids are all over you and you have holiday stuff to do. I need my routine back! It's on come Monday, January 5th. Oh it's on!
GOAL #3 : Daily 1K runs.
What was I thinking?!?!? Oh yeah! I was thinking this : since I do 2x5Ks a week, sometimes 3, I can do 1k a day right? Uh, wrong. It's like saying if you do a 5K in 30 minutes then a 10K should take you an hour? Right? Uh... no. Well, not for me. I can do a 5k in 25 minutes, but I have yet to break 1 hour on a 10k. I changed my goal to this : Reach 10k in under an hour, and maybe under 50 minutes. I start running tomorrow.
Oh, and to run more races. I like the energy of the crowds at 5Ks and 10Ks, and for some reason I tend to run faster at these events.
GOAL #4 : Weekly Yoga Classes.
I tried this Yoga studio close to my house and the instructor kicked my butt. I mean, I have been looking for an instructor who really pushes you, and I found him. My first day was the Friday after Xmas and I made a promise to myself to go every Friday to get the same instructor. But guess what, come January 2nd the studio was closed for the New Year celebration. I was soooo there, with my mat and all, ready to do some Downard-Facing-Dogs until my arms bled, and bam! It's closed. I'm definitely going on Friday.
