IWSG: Co-Hosting & Helping Promote Other Authors

Posted on June 30, 2015
This month, I am co-hosting IWSG, the brilliant brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh, along with my other wonderful co-hosts Charity Bradford, S.A. LarsenAJ, Tamara Narayan and Allison Gammons. If you're a writer, then you'll love this group, so sign up and join the awesomeness!

This month, instead of posting about my neurosis stemming from my book launch in August (more about that later) or talking about an insecurity I normally have on a given afternoon (like erasing four hours of writing because it was pure crud), I want to do something different. Because book promotion is so challenging to a ton of us, I thought I would use my IWSG co-host exposure to help promote some indie author friends who, I think, are pretty freaking fantastic.

So, without further ado, I bring you two beautiful people: Misha Gericke and Katie Cross!

(These ladies rock! **FIST PUMP** WOOHOO! )

Misha Gericke, A.K.A - M. Gerrick

Misha, a fellow IWSG member, is about to release The Heir's Choice (July 31, 2015), the second book in the War Of Six Crowns series. She has three busy blogs (THREE!?!?! I can barely keep the one!) : The Five Year Project is all about Misha's writing, Taking Charge of My Life is a blog about the journey she has embarked upon to follow her dreams, and Take One Red Wall is a blog about her DIY projects. Misha is also an active contributor at Untethered Realms, and she shares her writing advice at Unicorn Bell. (Now that's A LOT of writing!!)

A bit of back story:
I met Misha a few years ago. At that time, I was a newby blogger, and although I came out of the I.T. e-commerce world, I was totally new to the social media world. (Talk to strangers online? I barely talk to strangers in real life!) At that time, Misha was promoting The Vanished Knight and she was everywhere! I was so impressed that I emailed her directly and asked her how she did it. How did she appear on multiple blogger sites she didn't own? Was she part of some super secret group of authors? Did she hire a promotional service? Of course not. In her reply, she said all she did was build up a network of online blogger friends and ask them to read and review her writing. Such simple advice, yet tough for a social-media-newby to comprehend, and she made it look so easy. It was the "eye-opener" email I needed to really jump into the ocean that is social media and connect with people.

Katie Cross

Katie Cross is about to release Mildred's Resistance (July 15, 2015), the prequel to Miss Mabel's School For Girls and the first book in The Network Series. On her blog, www.kcrosswriting.com, you'll find loads of info on the business of self-publishing and personal posts on her writing journey. She is a contributing member of Read, Write, Muse and has an inspiring chick-lit story on Wattpad titled Bon Bon To Yoga Pants that has a pretty nice following. She's super cool and is about to welcome an itty-bitty bundle of joy this summer. (Publishing in her 3rd trimester?!?! She's a total rock star!)

A bit of back story:
A few years ago I followed only a couple of bloggers and participated in a few communities and groups on both facebook and google+. For a wall-fly like myself, this was my huge step into the social media world - I don't think I used a real photo back then. Anyway, I had just self-published A Selfish Moment and thought I would test my hand at this whole ask-a-blogger-for-review thing. So, Katie was one of the few bloggers I asked to review my novel, one of only a handful. She gave it a great review, 4 stars, and she was one of the first people to subscribe to my fledgling blog. Talk about support! She is such good people and a pretty awesome writer. I've been following her like a fangirl ever since.

Writing up this post was so much fun, I think I'll try and promote an author in each IWGS post. :-D

  11. OMG Tanya! THAT COVER? I saw the promo thing you put on Facebook for the release day group, but that cover makes me swoon hard core. And thanks so much for the shoutout! I've been following you like a fangirl ever since read A Selfish Moment. (Which really is a phenomenal book. I still remember it, and that's saying something.)

I'm glad we connected years ago and are still friends. Also? Shoutout to Misha. I was one of those people that found her and wanted all her secrets as well, though I just started following and didn't really speka up like you did :)

  32. Hmm, all three look interesting, but I only blog about kid lit. Yours fits, and though I can't promise a review because of prior commitments, I sure could do a post if you send the html. Your launch doesn't give the specifics, so email me if that works.
