Friday Celebrations : Makeovers

Posted on July 17, 2015
This month has been all about renovations in my home. The kids are growing up and we've been here about 11 years, so now my 100-year-old house is getting a little makeover. Each week is something different. Here are my celebrations for this week:

  • Got to "bunk" with the kids in the living room while the 2nd floor gets renovated (new floors, patches on the walls, fresh paint, new bathroom). Three mattresses on the floor, side by side, and clothes everywhere in relatively neat piles. Feels like a getaway vacation, sort of. Lots of fighting and bonding, and lots of movies.
  • Gave away my kids baby furniture to a family who really needed it. The crib, dresser/changing-table and armoire were all used by both my kids who are now 13 and 8, and were still in great condition. I'm so glad I gave it to a family who seemed really excited to have it, and were totally grateful. It was a heart-heavy moment when they picked it up.
  • Kept my kitchen clean throughout the mess. There's just no way of escaping the dust and dirt in a small house. And since my living room is our bedroom, and my dinning room and basement den is acting as a temporary storage facility for our 2nd-floor stuff, keeping the kitchen clean is a miracle.
YAY for small victories!

  1. It is always about the small moments (bunking with the kids) and paying it forward. They will in turn pay forward the blessing you gave them in some way. Lovely celebration post

    1. Bunking with the kids is loads of fun. The mattresses also act as trampolines! :-D

  2. We do nights on the floor during tornado evenings, and it's always so much fun. There's a closeness about it, which makes me think back to the times when families always slept in one room. Glad to hear your renovations are on the forward march. Good luck this week!

    1. Although it has been fun, I do like the privacy of my own bedroom. Not sure I would enjoy this as much if it was the norm as it was long ago. :-1

    1. I was so so happy to find this young couple, and they were truly thrilled. They just had their first baby and were struggling financially. They were surprised I wasn't selling it. But, it just felt wrong selling it to them. I just wanted the furniture to go to a family who would appreciate it as much as we did.

  4. Keeping one room clean can be a challenge even when there aren't renovations going on. Kudos.

  5. It's funny that you're like the fourth person I know who's doing big home improvements this summer. I don't know where you all find the energy when the heat has me hiding inside running the AC full blast! lol Good luck with it all! :)
