Friday Celebrations : Procrastination
Posted on February 26, 2016
Of course, I write a post about how I'm going to be heads-down on The Onyx Ring, the 2nd book in the Family Relics series, and then the procrastination bug hits me. The planets must be out of alignment, or maybe I had too much Manchego cheese on Tuesday. Have you ever had Manchego cheese? It's hard to just have one piece, or ten. I won't even mention the Oreo Thin Crisps I discovered last weekend. Maybe my blood-sugar level is low. Better eat another crisp to be on the safe side.

But it isn't without just cause. On Thursday morning, I started an intense scene and I suddenly found myself doing some hard-core inner-soul type of thinking. The kind of thinking that has you doing multiple u-turns when driving because you keep passing your destination. Or the kind of thinking that has you washing your hair 3 times during a single shower, and you screem from the icy cold water slapping your back because the hot water ran out.

Yeah... that kind of thinking.

So, to help the development process inside my head, I decided to look at some art online. Since I was thinking about my story, I searched for dragon/witch art and I found a gem. Anne Stokes (www.annestokes.com) has amazing art that matches the witch-dragon relationship that I portrat in my series. Here are some of her pieces.

This could totally be Finna when she creates the first dragon mentioned in The Box Of Souls.
There is a fierceness to the woman that captures Finna's determination perfectly.

In The Onyx Ring, I describe a scene where Finna considers the risks of creating the dragons.
This piece captures that moment beautifully.

This could be Agatha or Finna with Baronyx once he is fully grown.
Baronyx considered them his mothers, and he was their favorite.
The tenderness is evident in this piece.

So, my procrastination hasn't been a total waste. I LOVE LOVE LOVE these pieces, and dozens more on her site. So, YAY for procrastination!!!

Happy Friday!

    1. It's a dry cheese from Spain, similar to Asiago and Parmesean. It's absolutely delicious.

    1. The problem with these images is avoiding the urge to create little stories for each of them. :-D
