Friday Celebrations - Poetry, Print Publishing, And Writing

Posted on January 20, 2017
Is the inauguration over yet?
It's time to celebrate! It's Friday! It's almost February! It's inauguration day!

Ok, maybe not all those things are positive, but I refuse to let the actions of a small group damage my faith in the american people and in our system of government. Life must go on. Peaceful protests must continue. Governments must shift. Voices are to be heard. The crazy will be crazy.

And... there is writing to be done.

Here are my celebrations for this week, quite a few writing related:

  • I am coordinating with two other poets on a collection and I just had the pleasure of working with one of their drawings for the book cover. It's absolutely fantastic. An original piece of art that I will be announcing in the next few weeks. The collection is mature in subjects and not meant for children, unlike the last collection I worked on, ranging across themes including life, death, love, relationships, anxiety, and more.
  • I finalized the print version on CreateSpace for Isabel & Leo short story collection. There was a struggle with the layout of the cover. Things just weren't lining up correctly. Now that's done. CHECK!
  • Completed a tough chapter in The Onyx Ring, which blocked me for 3 whole months. THREE MONTHS!!!! A small victory, but what the hell -- yay me!!

What are your celebrations this week? Have you been watching the inauguration and all the related protests and coverage? What's your take on all of it?

Happy Friday!!

This post is part of the
Celebrate The Small Things Blog Hop
hosted by Lexa Cain.

  1. Congrats on finishing that tough Chapter!!!!

    Have a nice weekend.

  2. Yay for your poetry project and for finalizing the print cover. I'm too scared to do one, and I don't really understand the whole CreateSpace thing. (Who gets the orders? Who sends the books? Who keeps track of royalties? What if a print book doesn't arrive? Too much for me. You're brave!) It's great to hear you got that troublesome chapter out of the way. Have a lovely weekend!

    1. I think working in e-commerce for so many years, programming order processing systems that connect to distribution centers, makes it easy for me. And they are very responsive to inquiries from their authors. I once had an issue with printing, sent and email, and they responded within 24 hours. And... there's a whole community around them so lots of questions answered by people who are in the mix of it all. You should try it out.

  3. A poetry collaboration? Cool! Congrats on your accomplishments, especially that chapter! That sounds like a monster..

    1. Total monster. Got stuck on moving from one scene to the next and deciding which character had to go. Killing characters off feels good.
