Back To The Basics, an IWSG Post
Posted on April 3, 2019

This year I'm participating in April’s #AtoZChallenge as well as #NationalPoetryMonth. This decision came about in a sleep-deprived stupor at 3:00 AM on March 31st. I was having trouble sleeping so I picked up a poetry collection I bought a few weeks ago in an attempt to calm my brain into submission.

No luck.

Instead, it had the opposite effect. It inspired a poem I wrote in the wee hours of the night titled Artistic Masterpieces, about watching my son play with clay when he was a toddler. It was free verse, which I don't do often, but it was refreshing and somewhat cathartic to all the stuff that's gone on in my life these past few months.

So, in my sleepy-yet-delighted state, whilst yawning, at about 4:00 AM, I decided I was going to write a poem a day for April's challenge. And so, the brainstorming began.

But before I started writing, I thought, I can't post a poem a day on my website. My website's about my novel endeavors, mostly, and other happenings in my life. It seems like it wasn't the right place to put a new piece of poetry everyday. The news-like feed doesn’t lend itself to poetry reading. Plus, I was planning on writing stuff from my soul, pure and raw.

And so, at about 6:00 AM, I created Petals On The Wind. It's the new home for my little creations, and everything that will come out of April's challenge.

The funny thing is, I created www.tanyamiranda.com for this exact reason -- to post my short stories and poetry. But once I started selling my novels, somehow, it got... commercial? I'm not sure what the right word is, but it's not where I want to put these delicate puppies.

So stop by Petals On The Wind for some free verse. It’s in its infant stages, there aren’t any images really, and I don't have a feed signup yet, but even that feels commercial-ish.
