For this month's IWSG post, I thought I'd have a little bit of fun. I created a mini mantra, or secondary mantra, of the things that has somewhat defined my life as a writer.
#1 - I drink loads and loads of coffee when I write. I mean I have to seriously stock up. I look for coupons. My husband does too, so maybe its just a creative thing. Tea just doesn't cut it.
#2 - I am always in self-doubt mode, no shocker there really. If I could stick my head under a rock whenever someone mentions my writing or asks me about my latest WIP, I would. I think I might be part ostrich.
#3 - I have an unhealthy obsession over punctuations. Dashes, em dashes, commas, ellipses, etc. Just when you think you have a grasp on them... it's like holding a soapy ferret. Try it. It's not that easy.
And if you're wondering why "slightly less well-known" sounds so familiar, click here for the Battle of Wits scene from The Princess Bride. It is my favorite movie of all time.
What would you include in your slightly less well-known mantra?

Hi Tanya, I too go through a stage of self doubt at some point in my writing, but I always manage to ignore it and overcome it!

I should have written “Fighting Self Doubt” instead. It’s a constant struggle.
DeleteI LOVE your mantra! (even though I hate coffee and drink loads of tea ;)). Whenever self-doubt tries to smack me down, I remind myself that I can quit if I want to...usually snaps me out of it. Have a great IWSG day!!
ReplyDeleteThat’s a great way to get back into it Marie. Going to try that next time.
DeleteGreat post! Same on the self-doubt, though I prefer my caffeine cold and carbonated.
ReplyDeleteCarbonated? Never tried that. I love cold brew, but hot coffee is my fuel.
DeleteGreat mantra! I avoid caffeine, but when I drink it, it's typically iced tea. Oddly, caffeine makes me tired.
ReplyDeleteI hear you Shannon. Lots of people avoid caffeine. But I also love herbal teas. I drink lemon or hibiscus tea a night before going to sleep because it helps me sleep better.
DeleteHello! I have a thing about self doubt this month, one I picked up during a poetry workshop. I am a coffee addict too!
ReplyDeleteThey are kind of like an infection, just eating away at you until you, somehow, get over it. Hope you get over this bout soon. Would love to read some of your poetry. :-)
DeleteEver try to wash a ferret? I don’t have one but my nieces do and they say that once they escape the bath it’s a mission to get them back into the water.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely something to think about. But no more than a cup a coffee for me. My bones can't take it. :-)

Maybe I should switch to tea. :-J
