Social Media Silence, an IWSG Post
Posted on February 5, 2019

To me, social media is like a party, a place to discuss inconsequential matters of the world, a billboard for all the wonderful celebrations of life, a worry-free zone to express whatever your heart desires. Photos of friends and family, political memes from all sides, humorous insights into humanity, inspirational quotes. . . you can find almost anything online.

I've been absent on social media ever since my brother passed away last Fall. Social media silence is doom for an indie author, so I have to get back. I want to get back to it all. But, it's been hard to post something new on social media. I'm still not in a festive mood.

Mourning is hard to explain. It's different for everyone. For anyone going through a loss, I recommend trying "It's OK That You're NOT OK" by Megan Devine. It has helped me tremendously.

It's hard to live with true sorrow, but as with most things, time teaches you to live on. Day by day you learn to live with your loss. And now that the holidays are done and we are well into the new year, I have to find my way back online.

I'm going in slowly, and nothing book/writing related just yet. I've created a few memes with photos my brother took on his last trip to Ecuador in September of 2018, just a month before he passed away. Feel free to share - they're meant to inspire, to pay tribute to him, and to help heal a broken family.

  1. No matter what, losing a loved one is hard and not something you will ever really heal from. Just take those small steps of coming back.

    1. I've learned it's not so much about healing from the loss...it's more about getting used to living with the loss. That book really helped me see things in a new way.

  3. You have my good thoughts and prayers. I lost both parents and five other people who were important parts of my life in the space of 3 years. I, too, am slowly working my way back from dealing with and absorbing the changes these particular losses have brought about. I tried to save one of the pictures that spoke to me. I liked all of them, though one in particular.

If you're not ready to get back onto social media, then give yourself more time.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful quotes. Take care.
